Blender Comparison

Hi all!

A lot of people ask me about blenders, so I thought I’d do a little video to discuss some of the various options available. The blenders discussed are:

  1. Home-tek handhold blender
  2. Vitamix
  3. Blendtec
There are of course plenty of other options but I felt that these represented the most popular choices in raw food preparation.

Raw food pot luck in the Downs.

Group photo with raw food in the middle.

Last Sunday we had a raw food pot luck in Pewley Down, in Guildford. Lovely social event sharing scrumptious food, and afterwards we went for a walk to St. Martha’s :0)
The perfect excuse to enjoy raw food and exercise with lovely people.
Thanks so much to Barbara in the Vegetarian Society of Guildford for helping me organize the event.

Pickled walnuts

This is last's year one. Enjoy them with your favourite raw food dish.

Pickled walnuts are a delicacy that isn’t easy to find in the shops. Why not do it yourself?

Please note that this recipe isn’t suitable for those who are allergic to gluten because we have used malt vinegar, however you can use other vinegar which is gluten free.

To pickle the walnuts you’ll need: 2 kg green tender walnuts, 0.5 kg salt, 3l water, 1.25l  malt vinegar, 0.5 cup brown sugar (I used jaggery goor), 0.5 cup fresh ginger, 1 tablespoon cloves, a big bowl, gloves, a big jar.

Strawberry cobo

Strawberry Cobo

Cobo is a Japanese raw drink that is made with fruit and water. It’s very easy to make and it tastes delicious. I have chosen strawberries because they are in abundance now and it’s a great fruit to do it with. Some other fruits you can use are: mango, figs, plums and banana, all ripe. As far as I know cobo isn’t alcoholic, it’s very delicious and extremely healthy since it’s got good bacteria .

Wild food walk

On Sunday we went for a lovely walk to enjoy the landscape around Puttenham and to learn about wild plants. Jim guided the walk and I was impressed with his knowledge. Here are some pictures of the plants, and the proprieties that they have attributed. If you decide to use them, please consult with an expert and your doctor.

Pop Up restaurant in Dorking

On Saturday I participated in a Pop Up restaurant in Dorking, Surrey. The idea was to use the local allotments to provide food for the event. It was organized by Steve Edgar, and what a success! The evening was terrific, the tickets all sold out and there was a waiting list. I volunteered to prepare a raw food dish as the starter, a rainbow salad. Have a look at the pictures…

Below is a panorama showing the beautiful church in Pixham where the event was held.
